About the role
Archives Sector Development is the main focus for the organisation with four teams working closely together to achieve their goals. Your future team, Collections and Audience Insight, works to gather data from across the Archives sector to ensure the availability, the use and reuse of archive collections. The role will involve maintaining, reviewing and supporting the development of current and future information systems and resources. You will liaise with colleagues across the organisation and other archives sectors, as well as establishing and sustaining partnerships to improve the accessibility of archives to benefit all audiences. The National Archives aspires to be connected, informed, innovative, challenging and supportive, and to deliver excellent and cost-effective services and programmes that benefit archive services and their users, and improve the archival health of the nation.
About you
You will need to have good research and analytical skills, including data analysis, with excellent communication skills and problem-solving abilities. You'll also need to demonstrate a keen interest in the preservation of archives' information and a familiarity with online collection systems.
Competencies
You will be assessed against these competencies during the selection process:
- Demonstrable interest in the preservation and effective management of archives and information, and the ability to articulate the value of archives;
- Good knowledge of archival cataloguing practice and of current and emerging archival standards (e.g. ISAD(G), Records in Context) in a digital environment;
- Familiarity with online collections systems such as Discovery and the ability to think creatively about archival processes in context of current and emerging digital methods;
- Good research and analytical skills, including data analysis;
- Good organisational, problem solving and project management skills, preferably including digital projects;
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to engage and influence internal and external colleagues and prepare and deliver written content and presentations;
- Ability to work independently and in team situations, and to organise and take responsibility for own work and time;
