It’s time for DPC staff to take a break. It’s been a tremendous year.

DPC’s mission is a welcoming and inclusive global community around digital preservation. We are deeply encouraged by the confidence members put in the DPC, and in each other. We’re now active in 24 countries with 21 new DPC Members and 3 new Supporters since the start of the year. This year also saw a reboot of the DPC Supporters Program, another action packed World Digital Preservation Day, and the kick-off of new DPC Working Groups.

We’ve worked with members and colleagues to deliver lots of new resources that support digital preservation, and which have helped build relationships too: highlights include the Digital Preservation Documentation Guide, the N2KH training on Email Preservation, a Requirements Guidance for procuring IT systems and Level Up with RAM, all commissioned or encouraged by the community. With help from the community we’ve updated and expanded the Bit List of Digitally Endangered Species, published translations of the DPC Rapid Assessment Model (RAM) into Dutch, traditional Chinese and simplified Chinese, published three brand new Technology Watch Reports and Guidance Notes plus translations of four of the existing publications, translated transcripts of the iPRES 2022 keynotes, published a German translation of the Core Requirements for a Digital Preservation System, and updated versions of the Digital Preservation Policy Toolkit and the Digital Preservation Business Case Toolkit.

It's becoming a bit of a DPC tradition to celebrate the holiday season with the gift of trees. This December, 154 trees were planted around the world - one tree for every member organization. Let’s grow together and make a lasting impact.

These have been busy times for the staff, who will start winding down from Friday 15th December so they can tuck into Christmas pudding or sit by the beach, as the weather dictates. The office will close on Friday 22nd December 2023 and reopen on Tuesday 2nd January 2024. During that period, we will only be checking email intermittently. We hope you all have a good break too. We wish you a wonderful holiday season and look forward to seeing you all again in 2024!
