The British Architectural Library (BAL) is the RIBA’s four-million-strong collection of architectural drawings, photographs, manuscripts, books, models and associated artefacts. It is one of the very oldest, largest and richest collections of its kind anywhere in the world. The collections are a world-class research resource and are at the heart of the RIBA’s exhibition and learning programmes.

The RIBA is seeking to appoint a Digital Imager & Photographer as part of the Imaging Services team based at the RIBA Library in Portland Place, London with occasional work at the RIBA Drawings & Archives Collections at the V&A Museum. This role is responsible for creating, storing and preserving high quality digital images, mainly flatbed scanning of photographs to support the RIBA’s commercial and cultural programmes and objectives, in particular its online image database RIBApix.

Candidates should be highly organised with an ability to work quickly and accurately both as part of a team and on your own initiative. You will have a proven track record in photography and digitisation, a knowledge of photographing and processing both 2-D and 3-D objects in a studio situation, the equipment and systems that will be used. Ideally you should have experience of using a Phase One camera and have passed the Phase One Certified Professional training programme.

Additionally the post holder will also be expected to contribute to the Library’s income generation by licencing and disseminating images by fulfilling customer enquiries and orders as well as assisting the Imaging Services Manager with appropriate day-to-day activities.

Ideally candidates should have experience in handling museum/archive collections and a demonstrable interest in architecture and architectural photography.
