Role Details

The Digital Preservation Technical Analyst provides technical expertise and advice on digital preservation strategies for legacy and contemporary digital collections, contributes to the ingest and management of digital assets in the Library’s digital preservation system, and works collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary Preservica Implementation Group to develop procedures and workflows for the ongoing stewardship of digital heritage collections.

Key Outcomes of Role

  1. Make expert use of a wide range of legacy and forensic hardware and software systems to analyse and identify data types, file formats and their dependencies.

  2. Undertake research and complex problem solving to provide expert advice in the technical assessment, extraction, migration and/or emulation of digital collections.

  3. Develop and implement ingest and migration workflows, including writing and executing simple scripts in accordance with the Library’s application development standards.

  4. Prepare reports that document digital preservation decisions and contribute to the continuous improvement of business rules, procedures, and policies for acquiring, managing, and preserving digital collections.

  5. Work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary Preservica Implementation Group to develop procedures and workflows for the ongoing stewardship of digital heritage collections.

  6. Support the development of digital preservation capacity in the Library by identifying development needs and opportunities, and by contributing to training programs.

  7. Maintain strong collaborative working relationships with business units, vendors, and key stakeholders.

  8. Maintain knowledge of current and emerging developments in digital preservation theory and practice through self-directed professional reading and active participation in professional networks
