We are seeking to appoint a highly skilled and motivated individual to join the LMG Heritage Services Team as a Technical Photographer/Digital Imaging Specialist.

Reporting to the Digital Heritage and Operations Manager and working closely with Librarians, Curators and Archivists, you will supervise and maintain the digitisation facilities, delivering a scalable programme of digitisation, implementing workflows and developing associated documentation. You will use a variety of imaging technologies to create digital images of complex, fragile and unique objects with a whole life-cycle approach. You will play a key role in developing technical standards for digital asset management and creating the procedures necessary to support the University’s aim to foster greater awareness and accessibility of the collections.

You will have experience in technical photography of objects in an archive, library, gallery or museum environment. You will demonstrate a flexible, collaborative and proactive approach to work, with practical problem-solving ability. You will be comfortable with regular manual handling and lone working in a specialist environment. You will have a Post -16 qualification or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Devise and deliver a comprehensive and scalable digitisation service, applying working knowledge of best practice in object photography in the library, archive, museum and gallery sector

  • Oversee the digitisation studio and create a safe working environment

  • Manage specialist equipment, creating and overseeing a regular programme of maintenance, and recommending updates and improvements

  • Exercise care in handling fragile and/or unique material, ensuring all activities are carried out with due regard to the conservation of the items being imaged

  • Establish new and streamline existing digitisation workflows across Libraries, Museums and Galleries, encouraging a culture of continuous service improvement

  • Contribute to the creation of a roadmap for digital asset management in support of long-term digital preservation.
