Full-Time

The Parliamentary Archives are looking for a Digital Preservation Assistant Graduate Trainee.

Based in the Preservation & Access Team and reporting to the Senior Digital Archivist, this post is an opportunity for a self-motivated graduate to gain work experience in an operational digital repository, prior to taking up a place on a post-graduate course in digital preservation or a related discipline. The post holder would be involved in a wide range of professional work and be provided with good developmental opportunities.

The Digital Preservation Traineeship will provide hands-on experience of digital preservation, working with a range of Parliamentary Archive staff. This will range from identifying the digital assets to be preserved, through the process of capturing digital assets for preservation, to understanding the needs of users and other stakeholders.

The job is offered as a training post and will be on a fixed-term basis until 31 August 2017, with the intention that this will provide experience for a person wishing to undertake a post-graduate qualification in digital preservation or a related discipline starting in September 2017.

Candidates will be expected to start the application process during the training period. The job is intended for someone who has no other means of gaining the necessary experience in order to qualify for entry to such a course. Priority will be given to applicants who have not previously held significant paid employment in archives, and who have no existing postgraduate archives or digital preservation training. The post is not designed for students already enrolled in full or part-time archives or digital preservation courses, including distance learning courses.
