DigCurV-Conference-Logo-2aThe DigCurV project is delighted to invite DPC members to “Framing the digital curation curriculum”, a conference to be held from 6th to 7th of May 2013 in Florence.

With the development of an advanced knowledge-based society, digital curation is becoming a central challenge and activity for libraries, archives, museums and other cultural organizations. The need for skilled professionals to manage digital collections is evident in Europe and internationally, yet there are limited numbers of institutions currently offering professional training and education programmes to prepare individuals to work in the field.

The aim of the DigCurV (Digital Curator Vocational Education Europe) project, funded by the European Commission’s Leonardo da Vinci programme, is to address the availability of vocational training for digital curators in the library, archive, museum and cultural heritage sectors by developing a framework for the Curriculum needed to develop new skills that are essential for the long-term management of digital collections.

The objective of the conference is to promote discussion and consensus building amongst stakeholders about the main criteria and requirements necessary to develop training courses for professionals in digital curation in the cultural heritage sector.  Results from projects and initiatives actively involved in education, training and professional development in the field of digital curation and digital preservation will be presented and discussed.  There will also be an opportunity to examine the Curriculum Framework, how it can be applied, to evaluate how existing training fits in the CF, and to assess gaps experienced in training courses design.

The audience will include policy makers, educators, representatives from institutions involved in vocational training in digital curation, and representatives from professional associations in the cultural heritage and digital libraries sectors.

The participation is free but spaces are limited so be sure to register soon.
