The University of Bath seeks a skilled systems developer with proven data expertise and a passion for open science, to join the Research Data Service within the University of Bath Library.

The Library’s research data service is a relatively new and evolving area, with synergies to open access, research publications, digital preservation, and repository development. As the Research Data Librarian (Systems) you will develop and manage the University’s Research Data Archive, enabling researchers to publish and preserve their research data. You will customise and maintain the data repository platform, integrate with secure preservation-grade storage and other research systems, and enhance the user interface.

The role requires experience with information systems development and maintenance, as well as demonstrable technical competence with web technologies such as Perl, xml, html, and java. Familiarity with repository or CRIS software, would be an advantage. The role also requires an understanding of server administration and IT security. Ideally the post-holder will have experience in the library or information management sector.

You will be innovative in your work and have an enthusiasm for promoting best practice. The post-holder will have a willingness and aptitude to learn, and will quickly develop extra skills and competencies. There will be opportunities to obtain additional training and to gain more experience in this area.

The successful applicant will join a dedicated, professional team of Library staff committed to the continual development of services to support the University’s strategy: to deliver world-class research and teaching, extend the University’s international influence, and enrich the student experience. We understand the importance of continued professional development for all Library staff in order to achieve this, and provide programmes of local opportunities, and support involvement in appropriate external activities.
