The DPC is pleased to announce three new scholarship opportunities for members through its Leadership Programme. Members are invited to submit applications for scholarships to help with attendance at PASIG 2017, iPRES 2017 and the new DPTP course 'Migration of File Formats'.
Full announcements for the three scholarship opportunities are included below, after the brief introductions, along with the relevant application forms. Individuals may apply for one or more applications but will only be eligible to receive one award and must complete a separate form for each. If applying for more than one scholarship please indicate your preferred award and this will be taken into consider by the judging panel. Please also note the earlier closing date for the DPTP course.
DPTP: Migration of File Formats
Migration is one of the oldest and most widely used digital preservation approaches. Yet migration also causes loss. When we change a file from one format to another, we’re introducing profound changes to the data, and the way that data gets presented to us. Even when we think it’s succeeded, there are changes underneath the surface that might be problematic for us. Since this loss is inevitable, we need to plan for it. One way of looking at a preservation strategy is that we are planning for loss caused by migration. How can we identify it, what is causing it, and how much of a hit are we prepared to accept?
The course will provide attendees with an understanding of migration as a preservation strategy, demonstrating the detail by showing actual migrations of files. Word-processed file and image file migrations are covered by demos.

PASIG 2017
The Preservation and Archiving Special Interest Group (PASIG) is dedicated to advancing the practice of digital preservation and archiving. It brings together practitioners, industry experts and researchers to share experience in a vendor-neutral forum on how to put preservation and archiving into practice. PASIG is a place to share practical experiences, successes, pain points, and, increasingly, a forum for fostering coordination and collaboration to enable the most effective use of our resources.
The Digital Preservation Coalition is pleased to offer two scholarships which meet the full registration costs, along with a bursary of up to £150 per scholarship for applicants within the UK and £300 for applicants attending from further afield, as a contribution towards travel and subsistence costs.

iPRES 2017
iPRES conferences embrace a variety of topics in digital preservation - from strategy to implementation, and from international and regional initiatives to small organisations. Within this broad topic area, each conference defines a slightly different focus. Alongside a carefully designed official programme, participants have many opportunities for discussion with international colleagues. The iPRES series aims to foster international interaction and collaboration. Scholarship recipients will be able to attend the full conference as well as accompanying workshops.
Attendance at iPRES 2017 costs 35000 JPY (c. £250) per person for early bird registration. The Digital Preservation Coalition is pleased to offer two scholarships which meet the costs of the registration, along with a bursary of up to £1000 per scholarship as a contribution towards travel and subsistence costs.
