Role Description:
The Yorkshire Archaeological and Historical Record Series (YAHSRS) and the Borthwick Institute for Archives (BIA) are looking for an experienced Web Developer to work with the Collections Technology Team on an exciting new project - The Yorkshire Historic Dictionary. The project is funded by the Marc Fitch Foundation and will involve the production of a published and an online version of the dictionary. The post holder will be based in the Collections Technology team, in the Library (Information Services) and will build on the University of York’s Digital Library platform to design, develop and implement leading edge technical components to enhance the current repository infrastructure and support the needs of the Project.
You will be a graduate with a degree-level qualification in a computing subject, or more than two years of equivalent employment experience. You’ll have expertise in Ruby, Python, Java or an allied programming language, demonstrable knowledge of digital repositories, digital preservation, or other data-driven systems, and be used to working with structured data, such as RDF, XML, or JSON.
We are looking for someone who is an active participant in open source software communities and who can communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical project stakeholders in order to understand and deliver their requirements. You’ll be a fast-learner who is committed to personal development, and equally comfortable working independently or in a collaborative environment.
This is a fixed term opportunity, available for 20 weeks.
The starting salary will be £31,604 a year. This is a full time position (37 hours a week) and is available immediately. A flexi-time scheme operates which allows for flexible working within operational guidelines.
