The function

As a Digital Curator you are responsible for the digital information that is managed by the City Archives. You use your technical expertise for the exchange and management of digital information within the infrastructure of the Municipality of Amsterdam. You ensure the sustainable availability of digital archives and you contribute to the improvement of our services such as taking and preserving different file formats and offering that information to different platforms. You also contribute to the program for the renewal and replacement of the digital infrastructure of the City Archives and help realize the ambitions of the municipality of Amsterdam in the field of information management.

Activities

  • Implementing or supervising the intake of digital archives;
  • Ensuring that the managed objects remain accessible (preservation);
  • Monitor and improve the quality of systems and processes;
  • Investigate, test and implement preservation tools;
  • Searching for creative and sustainable solutions to problems that arise when taking or managing storage formats;
  • Follow the developments of digital information management and translate this into the practice of the City Archives;
  • Being a conversation partner for IT, information provision and archive specialists.

Requirements

  • Completed IT oriented higher professional education;
  • Affinity with digital archiving and the technical requirements for collecting and preserving digital archives, including hardware and software, data carriers, data security, metadata schedules and file formats;
  • Experience with SQL, XML and REST. You are also familiar with JSON, IIIF and ElasticSearch Knowledge of infrastructure design and concepts.
