On the 5th July, we organized one of our best-attended DPClinics to-date, in which we heard Maureen Pennock (Head of Digital Collection Management at the British Library) talk about her recent work to develop the CHARM reference model for digital preservation risk. Inspired by risk science, CHARM offers a new perspective on digital preservation risk that distinguishes between the conceptualisation of risk and its subsequent characterisation or measurement.  It can be used to help produce scenario-based and holistic risk assessments that incorporate different types of characterised risks, rather than focusing on one type alone.

A short blog post about this DPClinic can be found here and Maureen provided a brief overview of her work in a recent blog post for the DPC; further details about CHARM can be found at https://discovery.dundee.ac.uk/en/studentTheses/disentangling-digital-preservation-risk.

Maureen subsequently created a recording of her presentation, which can be found at: https://youtu.be/mrR4_BamF-E?si=irTfMEQqFEyZx4gZ

We will play this recording during the watch party, and then be joined by Maureen for up to 30 minutes of discussion. So this will be an ideal opportunity for anyone in the Australasian/Asia-Pacific time zones to find out about CHARM, or ask Maureen questions about her work.

Who can use #DPClinic?

#DPClinic is available to everyone in the digital preservation community, DPC Members and non-members alike, provided all participants are respectful and supportive of one another and adhere to the DPC's Inclusion and Diversity Policy.

DPC Inclusion & Diversity Policy

The DPC Community is guided by the values set out in our Strategic Plan and aims to be respectful, welcoming, inclusive and transparent - the same applies to #DPConnect sessions. We encourage diversity in all its forms and are committed to being accessible to everyone who wishes to engage with the topic of digital preservation, whilst remaining technology and vendor neutral. We ask all those who are part of this community and/or attending a #DPConnect session to be positive, accepting, and sensitive to the needs and feelings of others in alignment with our DPC Inclusion & Diversity Policy.
