Skilled staff are the core of any successful digital preservation endeavour. An organization may have all the policy and processes in the world, but without people to implement them it is all for nothing. It is, therefore, important to take a robust approach to understanding the skills needed to support digital preservation. But how do we know what skills are required? And how can these be developed and expanded over time?
In this DP Clinic session, we’ll be focusing on understanding digital preservation skills requirements and how to plan development. The clinic will begin with a brief introduction to the DPC’s Competency Framework and Audit Toolkit, before we introduce a new community skills development resource. Developed as part of the iPRES 2024 “Start to Preserve” stream, and hosted by the DPC, the new resource aims to provide the community with a place to capture and identify development opportunities for digital preservation (think COPTR but for skills!)
There will also be time in the session for attendees to discuss their skills development challenges and successes and to feed into continued refinement of the new resource and futures plans for DPC Workforce Development activities. Anyone with an interest in digital preservation skills is encouraged to attend!
#DPClinic is available to everyone in the digital preservation community, DPC Members and non-members alike, provided all participants are respectful and supportive of one another and adhere to the DPC's Inclusion and Diversity Policy.

DPC Inclusion & Diversity Policy
The DPC Community is guided by the values set out in our Strategic Plan and aims to be respectful, welcoming, inclusive and transparent - the same applies to #DPConnect sessions. We encourage diversity in all its forms and are committed to being accessible to everyone who wishes to engage with the topic of digital preservation, whilst remaining technology and vendor neutral. We ask all those who are part of this community and/or attending a #DPConnect session to be positive, accepting, and sensitive to the needs and feelings of others in alignment with our DPC Inclusion & Diversity Policy.
Zoom may now require you to have a personal account in order to join a meeting. Therefore please could you register for an account in advance of #DPConnect, if you do not have one already. The sign up link is here: https://zoom.us/signup
