In recent years the theme of Artificial Intelligence has become impossible to ignore. Interest in AI remains high amongst DPC Members, with many telling us that they want to know more about the topic. But there's also evidence of growing scepticism and cynicism about whether (and how) AI might make a difference to the day-to-day activities and concerns of people working in the field of digital preservation — both now, and in the future.
This event brings together five speakers who will each offer their own thoughts and perspectives on the topic of AI: its uses, abuses, and potential in digital preservation. We will collectively attempt to distinguish the promise from the hype, and the impact existing and prospective AI technologies might have on our work in digital preservation.
Adam Farquhar, Digital Lifecycle Management
Paul Gooding, University of Glasgow
William Kilbride, Digital Preservation Coalition
Manuela Pallotto Strickland, King’s College London
John Sheridan, The National Archives
There will be time to discuss the thoughts of each speaker, and to have a wide-ranging conversation about AI and Digital Preservation.
A watch party for this event will take place at a time to suit Members in the Australasia and Asia-Pacific time zones on the 18th of February 2025 at 2:00am UTC.
