One of the challenges of working in a dynamic and evolving field such as digital preservation is the sheer volume of relevant papers and articles that are published every year. It can be a huge challenge for those of us working in this field to find out about these publications, let alone find the time to read them and absorb the contents.

The DPC Reading Club is here to help you with this challenge! It will not only signpost you to some interesting reading but also provides a place for a friendly chat about the text with other members of the community.

In our next DPC Reading Club session we will discuss a chapter from Ian Miligan’s latest book Averting the Digital Dark Age: How Archivists, Librarians, and Technologists Built the Web a Memory. Published in December 2024 this book discusses how the internet's memory infrastructure has developed. It moves from a history of the term "digital dark age" to a case study describing how the September 11 attacks prompted institutions to preserve thousands of digital artifacts.

In this session we will look at the penultimate chapter (chapter 5), which explores the digital preservation response to the September 11 attacks and the impact this has had on more recent collecting and preservation efforts.
