One of the challenges of working in a dynamic and evolving field such as digital preservation is the sheer volume of relevant papers and articles that are published every year. It can be a huge challenge for those of us working in this field to find out about these publications, let alone find the time to read them and absorb the contents.
The DPC Reading Club is here to help you with this challenge! It will not only signpost you to some interesting reading but also provides a place for a friendly chat about the text with other members of the community.
In our next DPC Reading Club session we will discuss an article from The American Archivist by David Pearson and James Doig. This paper, published in 2022, re-evaluates a large-scale project carried out by the National Archives of Australia between 2003 and 2006 to identify obsolete digital media in its collection and to describe and recover the data. The paper describes the original methodology and findings, and also investigates whether the recovered data can be accessed today.
David Pearson and James Doig (2022), "Tales from “THE disK FILES”: Lessons Learnt from a Data Recovery Project in 2003–2006 at the National Archives of Australia", The American Archivist (2022) 85 (2): 359–401. https://doi.org/10.17723/2327-9702-85.2.359
This will be a small and informal event for DPC Members only and places are limited. Sign up now to secure your place! We only ask that you have done the reading that has been set before the event and bring along your thoughts and observations to share.
