Digital Preservation as ‘Business as Usual’ Workshop

29 Apr 2025 at 6:00am - 29 Apr 2025 at 7:00am UTC
Online (Australasia and Asia-Pacific)
Members Only

06:00 - 07:00 UTC // 16:00 - 17:00 AEST (Click here to check your local time)

‘Business as usual’ is a term that is often used to express something that organizations who carry out digital preservation activites are striving for, but there is a lack of consensus on what it really means and at what point an organization can confidently say it has reached this level of maturity. In this session, hosted by the DPC, we will be joined by Libor Coufal, Assistant Director, Digital Preservation at the National Library of Australia (NLA) who will speak about digital preservation as BAU at NLA.

The online workshop will also provide an opportunity to discuss and explore some of the questions below in a small and friendly group setting:

  • Is there a definition of business as usual for digital preservation? What does it mean to you and your organization?

  • What does your digital preservation activity look like currently? (for example, who are your stakeholders? How many staff do you have? Do you have Service Level Agreements for your services?)

  • What does a successful digital preservation service look like to your stakeholders?

  • Do you consider your digital preservation activities to be business as usual? If so, when did you reach that point? If not, what needs to be in place to get there?

  • Is there a link between business as usual and certification frameworks or maturity models?

  • Is there other work the community should carry out to further develop the dialogue around this topic?

All attendees will be encouraged to openly discuss and share their thoughts, and consider outputs that might be helpful to the wider community.
