Cyber crime is continuing to rise in these disrupted and uncertain times. Ensuring our data remains safe is of critical concern to our community. Cyber security techniques are an essential tool in the defence of our digital collections, but restrictive security might hinder as well as help our cause. This event will dig into the concerns, issues, and myths at the intersection of cyber security and digital preservation and guide the digital preservationist through this complex and confusing subject.
The DPC in the UK is holding an online event on 15 December with speakers Tim Gollins from National Records of Scotland, David Batho from Jisc, Ange Albertini from Google, Jeanne Kraymer-Smyth from the World Bank Group and Klaus Rechert from Kehl University along with representatives from Preservica and Arkivum. It will include an introduction to cyber security plus responding to and recovering from a security breach. It will also look at digital preservation issues that are dependent on, or influenced by, cyber security.
The DPC Australasia and Asia-Pacific watch party for this event will be held online the following day in time zones to suit participants from Australasia the Asia-Pacific. It will show a selected recording of speakers from the UK session followed by a live presentation and Q&A on local cybersecurity issues by Dave O'Loan, Head of Cyber Relations at AARNet. The session will be hosted by Adam Bell, Cultural Outreach Manager at AARNet.
