Monthly #DPClinic sessions invite discussion and debate around shared challenges in preservation. Participants are invited to bring questions, queries and challenges on the relevant topic, as well as stories of what has worked well for them; or alternatively just listen in to the discussion.
In this #DPClinic we’ve invited Dr Maureen Pennock (Head of Digital Collection Management at the British Library) to talk about her recent work to develop the CHARM reference model for digital preservation risk.
Inspired by risk science, CHARM offers a new perspective on digital preservation risk that distinguishes between the conceptualisation of risk and its subsequent characterisation or measurement. It can be used to help produce scenario-based and holistic risk assessments that incorporate different types of characterised risks, rather than focusing on one type alone.
Maureen provided a brief overview of her work in a recent blog post for the DPC, and further details can be found at https://discovery.dundee.ac.uk/en/studentTheses/disentangling-digital-preservation-risk. This #DPClinic will give attendees the opportunity to hear more about this important work, and to discuss these ideas with their author and the wider digital preservation community.
Slides from this DPClinic can be found here and a blog post about this DPClinic can be found here.
#DPClinic is available to everyone in the digital preservation community, DPC Members and non-members alike, provided all participants are respectful and supportive of one another and adhere to the DPC's Inclusion and Diversity Policy.

DPC Inclusion & Diversity Policy
The DPC Community is guided by the values set out in our Strategic Plan and aims to be respectful, welcoming, inclusive and transparent - the same applies to #DPConnect sessions. We encourage diversity in all its forms and are committed to being accessible to everyone who wishes to engage with the topic of digital preservation, whilst remaining technology and vendor neutral. We ask all those who are part of this community and/or attending a #DPConnect session to be positive, accepting, and sensitive to the needs and feelings of others in alignment with our DPC Inclusion & Diversity Policy.
Zoom may now require you to have a personal account in order to join a meeting. Therefore please could you register for an account in advance of #DPConnect, if you do not have one already. The sign up link is here: https://zoom.us/signup
