Natalie Baur is Program Director for DPOE-N
Happy World Digital Preservation Day from your colleagues at the Digital Preservation Outreach and Education Network (DPOE-N)! We are excited to celebrate this important day with you, and we wanted to share some of our resources and funding opportunities that are available to the community.
DPOE-N was created by the Library of Congress in 2010 to provide digital preservation training across the U.S. The program transitioned to Pratt Institute School of Information and New York University’s Moving Image Archiving and Preservation program in 2018 to further develop it and support it into the future. In 2020, DPOE-N received a two-year grant from the Mellon Foundation to support its operations. In 2022, DPOE-N received two more years of grant funding from the Mellon Foundation.
The DPOE-N has a variety of opportunities for you to network and build your skills in digital preservation! For our community around the globe, you can find training and conferences listed in our regularly-updated Training Opportunities Database. We have also just launched a new Digital Preservation Research Guide, created by Graduate Fellow Olivia Meehan, which contains a listing of helpful resources on digital preservation topics, like white papers, research reports, and other kinds of community documentation.
For US citizens and US permanent residents, applications are open on a rolling basis through June 2024 for micro grants of up to $2500 USD to fund professional development in the area of digital preservation. We are interested in hearing from both individuals and institutions who are looking to enhance their digital preservation capacities, those who may have digital preservation challenges stemming from the COVID-19 outbreak, as well as emerging professionals with an interest in digital preservation, and any information worker laid off or furloughed during the Covid- 19 pandemic. Read about eligibility and apply for funding via our web application!
For US-based organizations with 501(c)(3) public charity status, or have an organization with 501(c)(3) public charity status serving as a fiscal sponsor, we offer funding of up to $600 USD for emergency hardware support. Read about eligibility and apply for funding via our web application!
Lastly, DPOE-N offers a variety of free workshops, held via Zoom. Stay up-to-date with announcements about upcoming DPOE-N workshops via our monthly newsletter. You can read about past workshops and download past workshop materials on our Past Workshops page.
