The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) and The National Archives (UK) invite members of the archives and digital preservation communities to join them on 29th June for a celebratory launch of the Novice to Know-How Email Preservation course. The online training is the latest in the digital preservation learning pathway “Novice to Know-How” (N2KH) and will enable information professionals to gain both knowledge and practical experience of how to preserve email.  EmailBanner

Part of The National Archives’ digital capacity building strategy, “Plugged in, Powered Up”, the original Novice to Know-How training courses aim to provide beginners with the skills required to develop and implement simple digital preservation workflows within their organisation. The new Email Preservation learning pathway, also conceived of and funded by The National Archives (UK) and delivered by the DPC, is aimed at learners who already have a solid foundational knowledge of digital preservation and are looking to build email preservation capacity at their organisation.

"Email continues to be one of the most commonly used communication methods for business and personal purposes", says Sharon McMeekin, DPC's Head of Workforce Development. "Therefore, capturing a complete record of our interactions, must include the preservation of email."

Tina Morton, Interim Head of Archives Sector Development at The National Archives, said “We’re delighted to be able to extend the Novice to Know-How collaboration with DPC. Building high-quality, accessible online training that meets the needs of the UK archives sector has been a core part of Plugged In, Powered Up. This course takes forward our plans to raise skills and expertise in priority areas.”

The launch event (29 June, 14:00-15:00 UTC+1/BST) will include short presentations on the background to the course, its development, and its contents, as well as some quiz-based fun and opportunities for attendees to ask questions and chat about the issues relating to preserving email. During the online launch details of how to sign-up to the new course will be shared. Access to sign-up will be exclusive to attendees for 48 hours, so if you're keen to get started make sure to join us!

Registration to the launch event is free and is open to all, so please read more about the program and sign up for the event!
