This World Digital Preservation Day, the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is delighted to share two new translations of its popular DPC Rapid Assessment Model, in Traditional and Simplified Chinese.
Now available as PDF downloads from the DPC website as part of a suite of other translations, the second edition of the DPC RAM is a digital preservation maturity modelling tool that has been designed to enable rapid benchmarking of an organization’s digital preservation capability.
“The Rapid Assessment Model is so universally applicable and helpful when planning digital preservation activities,” explains Peter Chan who created the Traditional Chinese translation. “And I wanted to make sure it was accessible to as many people around the world. I am delighted to be able to help make this available to speakers of Chinese within the digital preservation community, especially on World Digital Preservation Day.”
The DPC’s work includes the production of many guides and reports which have supported the development of digital preservation tools and standards, as well as the professional community engaged in digital preservation. The translation of DPC material into other languages is a vital way of supporting the digital preservation community across the world.
The Chinese translations of the DPC RAM released today are made available as part of the DPC’s policy and a wider program of work to provide better access to support for the practitioners who need it, wherever they are in the world.
Sarah Middleton, Head of Advocacy & Community Engagement for the DPC was enormously grateful to the translators, saying:
“It is the DPC’s ultimate aim to share all of its key resources in a range of languages and we are working with volunteer translators and digital preservation networks all over the world to make progress with this goal.
Without our volunteer translators none of it would be possible though. So, on World Digital Preservation Day, I’d like to thank each and everyone who has contributed a translation of a DPC resource – it’s been a truly concerted effort!”
The DPC is an international charitable foundation which supports digital preservation, helping its members around the world to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through community engagement, targeted advocacy work, training and workforce development, capacity building, good practice and standards, and through good management and governance. Its vision is a secure digital legacy regardless of geography.
Its program of activities for 2023 – 2024 is now available in Arabic , Chinese , French , German and Spanish . To offer a translation, please contact sarah.middleton@dpconline.org.
