As a ‘data collector,’ the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is responsible for how personal data is processed and for what purposes. Ahead of the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) coming into effect on 25th May, we have been making a few adjustments to to ensure we continue to appropriately collect, process and protect personal data.
We’ve added a new Privacy Policy to the DPC website which summarizes the personal data we collect and why.

If ever we would like to use personal data for a new purpose, we will always seek prior consent and will update our policy accordingly. We take protection of personal data seriously and employ data encryption in transit (using HTTPS protocol) and encryption at rest on the disk drives where personal data is stored.
In order to help us meet GDPR we’ll need the support of our members and event attendees too:
- If you are a member and have not already registered for the DPC website, when you do you’ll be asked to consent to our using your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy, in order to maintain your account by ticking a checkbox at the foot of the registration page.
- If you are a member and have already registered for the DPC website, please log in to edit your own profile (by clicking on your name at the top of the screen once logged in) and provide this consent in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Please tick the check box which can be found at the foot of your profile page to make this important update. Please note that without this consent prior to 25th May, we may need to remove any accounts which have not provided consent before GDPR comes into effect, and ask members to re-register under the new regulation.
- When you next register for a DPC event you will be asked to consent to the personal data you provide being used in order to complete your booking, in accordance with our Privacy Policy
