Jane Winters of the School of Advanced Studies at the University of London was elected as the new Chair of the DPC Board at the Annual General Meeting of the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) today.
Jane will be familiar to many people within the digital preservation community having served on the DPC Board for many years, as well as being a Fellow and Council Member of the Royal Historical Society. She is also a member of the Academic Steering and Advocacy Committee of the Open Library of Humanities and a member of the UK UNESCO Memory of the World Committee.
Outgoing Chair Juan Bicarregui, who had been in post for 6 years, heartily supported Jane’s appointment saying that she would bring a wealth of experience to the role:
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as Chair, and thank all the members of the DPC Board, and the Staff, for their support during this exciting phase of DPC’s development. I know everyone will give Jane a very warm welcome to her new position as Chair and am confident that she will be excellent in this role."
On accepting the position, Jane said: “We are all enormously grateful to Juan for steering the DPC through exciting times. Taking up this role is a wonderful opportunity, and I’m looking forward to working with everyone in the DPC community over the next few years to continue to plan and advocate for a sustainable digital future.”
