The Archives Professional is a qualified Archivist role, helping to manage the sustainability and ongoing accessibility of BT’s historical collections - our corporate memory.
BT’s Archives preserve and provide access to this rich heritage, with our pre-privatisation records being classed as public records under the Public Records Act. We have a statutory responsibility to preserve and make these records available, as well as a duty under our Heritage Policy.
We are an accredited service by The National Archives, with our collections recognised by UNESCO and Arts Council England.
This is a year’s fixed term post during a maternity leave, and will particularly support the team in its public researcher service, enquiries, budgets, and various pre-move project tasks in advance of moving the collection.
What you’ll be doing

Delivering collections management activities, including appraisal, arrangement and cataloguing of archival records of BT Group and predecessors to internationally recognised standards

Leading responses to enquiries from internal and external customers, in person or remotely (including in depth research for internal enquiries where appropriate), managing public research service, arranging shared supervision of external customers and academic partners

Tracking BT Group Archives spend and any financial challenge

Delivering collections projects relating to an upcoming archive move

Supporting with digital preservation ingest tasks

Providing digital acquisition support, including processing internal transfers, capturing descriptions in Calm and moving to our digital repository

Administrative tasks as needed, including capturing statistics for annual reporting
