Job Introduction
You’ll be working as part of the BBC East Midlands Today newsroom, updating and maintaining the library, dealing with enquiries and advising on issues like rights. Our archivists play a key role in the success of our newsgathering with expert guidance to journalists and third parties. This role is for two days a week. We are seeking someone who will work flexibly as part of the newsroom team.
Main Responsibilities
Archivists provide high quality services to our users that present and showcase Archive content increasingly via digital delivery. The role requires the ability to archive all broadcast material and ensure it is catalogued to an approved BBC standard. The archivist will be experienced in using search skills and emerging analytic tools to enable the curation of digital assets across multiple platforms. Archivists also work with non-digital collections delivering specialist services. Working as part of a team, as well as independently, Archivists interact with a range of customers and user communities, both BBC and externally. As well as advising on rights issues.

The successful candidate must have:

Demonstrable knowledge of news archiving systems and their application in managing news content (i.e Jupiter, iFind, Archive Search and the Digital Archive)

Interest in national and regional news and the East Midlands

Understanding of archive selection, metadata enhancement.

Awareness of rights issues and how to clear material for use

Excellent attention to detail and ability to work to tight deadlines

Willingness to work flexibly to provide cover
Knowledge of Quantel and basic editing skills essential but can be acquired or taught in role.
