We are seeking a solution and customer focussed Curatorial Officer who will embrace and celebrate the ambitious and rewarding challenges of video game preservation and digital archiving in the 21st century. 

The National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) is the custodian of Australia’s analogue and digital national audiovisual collection which contains over four million items. Our mandate is to collect, preserve and share the remarkable story of the Australian audiovisual experience through the creativity and history represented in film, television, radio, recorded sound, online media, video games and associated contextual documentation and ephemera.  

Our primary focus is on Australian production and Australian related production, but we also address key international influences on our culture. This position will, among other tasks, deal with the Funded Works Deliverables program in relation to digital games. The NFSA is committed to developing its collection through the representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, as well as those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

 Job Description

Under general direction undertake the following duties:

  • Actively contribute to the management and acquisition of contemporary Australian video games and interactive media productions through the funded Deliverables program.

  • Contribute towards curatorial projects and acquisition programs related to video games and interactive media in accordance with curatorial policy and practices which includes maintaining relationships with stakeholders, negotiating lodgement of material and processing incoming acquisitions.  

  • Undertake robust curatorial research and analysis of collection material, including strengths and weaknesses to assist develop targeted acquisition strategies. 

  • Contribute towards the developing and updating of curatorial and accessioning policies, guidelines, workflows and procedures as required.

  • Contribute to the interpretation and presentation of the collection as required.
