About the State Library

The State Library of New South Wales is one of Australia’s oldest and most important public institutions. Collecting actively since 1826, the Library preserves and presents the social and cultural history of our State and our Nation for the benefit of all. Its rich collections, both physical and digital, alongside partnerships with the public library network across NSW and other vibrant collaborations enable Australians to examine their past and imagine their future. In short, the Library occupies a unique position at the very heart of our civil society.

We are seeking a Digital Archives Assistant to work with the Digital Curation team to support workflows and processes for the acquisition and ongoing stewardship of born-digital collections, with a focus on transfer and preparation for ingestion. This includes working with legacy computers and digital carriers including floppy disks and optical media.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have the following knowledge and experience:

  • Applied knowledge of international standards and good practice relating to preservation of digital materials in a library or archive environment including metadata, file formats and technical specifications

  • Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with software and hardware tools used in digital preservation workflows, across multiple operating systems and through the command line

  • Demonstrated ability to research and resolve technical issues relating to software and hardware tools from the 1980s to present day

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated experience managing born-digital collections

Applicants not offered the role and assessed as suitable may be placed in a talent pool to fill future vacancies.
