Derbyshire Record Office is a combined archives and local studies service based in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales, just outside the Peak District National Park. We are looking for an enthusiastic and confident archivist to join our friendly team and take responsibility for establishing digital preservation at the Record Office for the first time. As well as dealing with digital records, you will also spend one week in four in the archive searchroom, dealing with the full range of archival records and enquiries.
What you will be doing:

Setting up our new digital preservation system, writing procedures for managing digital archives, and training staff in their use

Advocating for digital preservation within the county council and building relationships with council departments and depositors

Transferring and ingesting digital records

Cataloguing digital archives according to relevant archival standards

Acting as Duty Archivist one week in four, supervising the archive searchroom and responding to enquiries

Participating in other Record Office activities, such as creating content for our social media accounts
What skills and experience you need:

An archive qualification or equivalent experience in archives or records management

Familiarity with digital preservation principles, and preferably also digital preservation systems

Good understanding of data security, data protection and other access legislation

Providing good quality customer service and responding to enquiries

Communicating clearly, both in person and in writing

Being inclusive and friendly, treating everyone with respect

Fluency with IT, particularly Microsoft Excel

Enthusiasm for learning new skills
