The Collection Operations Section is responsible for securing and managing the National Archives’ archival collection and its storage environment in the Australian Capital Territory. The section is also responsible for facilitating the transfer of analogue and digital records into custody, with an increasing digital focus, managing storage services and projects, providing lending services and transfers, applying Machinery of Government changes and various national strategies, plans and programs.
The successful applicant will help to embed digital service delivery and capability within the Collection Operations section for the transfer of digital archival records into the National Archives' custody. They will directly support and help to enable the National Archives Strategy 2030, which seeks to ensure that by 2030 National Archives processes, systems and technology platforms enable efficient selection, transfer, control, preservation and ongoing use of Australian Government archival information and data in all formats. They will also support innovation for increasing National Archives digital transfer maturity aligned with other organisational transformation activities.
The position will manage a small team to plan and manage transfers, with a focus on digital records (born-digital and digitised), including a range of digital formats, coordinate supporting digital transfer activities and reporting, and provide supporting internal and external advice and engagement.
Requirement: Qualifications in either information studies, archival or conservation science or related disciplines are desirable. Qualifications in computer science or related disciplines may also be relevant. In the absence of formal qualifications, you may include evidence of skills, knowledge and equivalent experience in your application relating to the use of archival principles and practices relevant to the role.
