National Archives is looking for a Digital Preservation Project Manager within the Collection Management Branch. You will contribute to the successful delivery of the National Archives' digital preservation program.

The successful candidate will be joining a small, but enthusiastic team who are committed to building digital preservation capability at the National Archives to manage, preserve and make accessible the nation's digital cultural heritage. 

The Digital Preservation team sits within the Preservation section, which is responsible for the preservation and long-term accessibility of the most significant records of the Commonwealth in both physical and digital form. We carry out daily activities and make long term decisions to ensure that the collection will be available years from now regardless of technology.

Under limited direction, your role will include:

  • Develop, implement and evaluate policies, procedures, programs and projects related to digital preservation in accordance with the National Archives’ strategic objectives.

  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of the current and future needs of National Archives’ digital collection, including researching analysing and recommending digital preservation practices.

  • Provide high level advice, support, information and assistance to employees and management in relation to: digital formats, international best practice for the control and description of digitised and digital-born archival records; digital preservation standards; and the preparation, processing and management of digital materials created by or transferred to the National Archives.

  • Manage a team and its resources within the context of the National Archives’ strategic directions, outcome and outputs framework, legislative framework and other policies; and build team capacity through coaching, training, performance feedback; and encouraging career development.

  • Develop and maintain effective, professional relationships within National Archives, and with national and international digital preservation networks and with other archival institutions and professional associations. Champion digital preservation internally and externally.

  • Apply the principles of APS Values, Code of Conduct, workplace diversity, work health and safety and participative management within a work and team environment.

  • Promote and apply the National Archives’ Vision, Mission and Commitments as expressed in Strategy 2030 and Our Values.
