The British Museum is seeking a Project Archivist: Building Records to join the Collection Projects and Resources department. Working as part of the team responsible for managing and providing access to the Museum archive, the Project Archivist: Building Records will be responsible for a project to survey, appraise, catalogue and digitise building records within the Museum’s archive holdings in accordance with relevant national and international standards, assessing preservation and conservation requirements and making recommendations for storage.
Key Areas of Responsibility:

Appraise archival holdings and select for retention or disposal.

Arrange and catalogue selected Museum archive holdings in accordance with ISAD(G).

Prepare selected items in the Museum archive for digitisation.

Provide access to archival holdings in line with guidance.

Provide guidance, induction and training on the content and use of the Museum archive as required.

Evaluate any preservation or conservation requirements and arrange delivery of these.

Support the Senior Archivist in the development and delivery of projects, e.g. relating to the archive catalogue system, user services, conservation, cataloguing and rehousing of the archive.

Support the Senior Archivist in the management and development of the archive catalogue system and other digital services or software, in liaison with the IS department and/or service providers as required.

Budget management and finance administration including processing purchase orders and invoices, and budget monitoring.

Liaise with suppliers to ensure timely payment and deliveries of material.

Ensure compliance with the legislative and regulatory frameworks surrounding the care and management of the archives, for example the National Archives’ Archive Service Accreditation, GDPR and the Public Records Act.
