We are seeking to appoint an archivist to play a major role in all aspects of a project to make major improvements to the accessibility of some of our key 16th- to 18th-century manuscript collections.
Working with the Curator of Early Modern MSS and the Digital Metadata Analyst, you will analyse, structure and encode data created through the rekeying of the older printed catalogues in preparation for retro-conversion for inclusion in the online Bodleian Archives & Manuscripts catalogue. This will include some mark up of persons, places, organizations, subjects, merging index data with catalogue records, normalizing names, dates etc. You will encourage use and awareness of the collections through blogging and other outreach activity.
You will have an appropriate first degree and a postgraduate qualification in archives management or the equivalent. You will be familiar with good practice in the cataloguing and indexing of archives, with experience of relevant metadata standards such as ISAD(G), NCA rules for indexing and EAD. You will possess strong IT skills, and aptitude for encoding in XML, and be highly organised with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
