We are recruiting for a Web Archive Technical Lead to join the UK Web Archive team at the British Library.
We are the national library of the UK. As well as having a significant print collection including more than 170 million items - from Magna Carta, to handwritten Beatles' lyrics, to manuscripts by the Brontës, the Library since 2013 has been conducting major web archiving activities. These activities include each year performing a UK domain crawl resulting in over a petabyte of content and frequent crawls from daily to monthly of targeted websites.
In your role as the Web Archive Technical lead, you will lead:
-
The development and improvement of the Library's web archiving technical capability, in response to evolving web technologies.
-
All aspects of the technical operations including the annual harvests of the whole UK web domain.
-
Ensuring the required technical infrastructure (hardware, software and network) is in place to meet the evolving business requirements.
-
Partnerships with the Legal Deposit Libraries to ensure their requirements are fully understood and incorporated in to the web archiving activities.
-
Represent the Library externally and internationally, working collaboratively with partner organisations on common issues and technical solutions through shared standard and open-source tools.
Please note that we are continuing to experience a major technology outage as a result of a cyber-attack. We are continuing our web archiving activity and our buildings are open as usual, however, the outage is still affecting our website, online systems and services, as well as some onsite services. We currently have a temporary website (https://www.bl.uk/), with limited content outlining the services that are currently available, as well as what is on at the Library. If you've got any questions about working at the Library or the role, please contact bl-recruitment@bl.uk.
