Ranging from in-person workshops to panel discussions and digital preservation training, the events take place in September and October and aim to provide an opportunity for the digital preservation community to learn more about different aspects of preserving digital materials for future generations.
“Four years ago I visited Melbourne and began conversations that led to the founding of our DPC Australasia and Asia-Pacific office”, says Paul Wheatley, Head of Research & Practice at the Digital Preservation Coalition in the UK, who will be leading the string of events. “It was great to connect with members of Aus Preserves and to join in with delivery of a hands-on training course. So it's really exciting to be back and visiting members in Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.”
Together with DPC’s Head Australasia and Asia-Pacific, Robin Wright, they are looking forward to hosting a series of events which are open to all. “We're really keen to support our members in tackling their digital preservation challenges and also to hopefully show the benefits of DPC membership to many more organizations.”
On the program are ‘Just Keep the Bits’ workshops in Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney and Brisbane, about risk management and digital preservation; a panel discussion ‘Local digital preservation challenges for a global community’ at the Australian Society of Archivists (ASA) conference led by Robin Wright; an online Documenting Digital Preservation: watch party and a RAM Jam workshop in Wellington, guiding participants on site through the process of the DPC's Rapid Assessment Model.
The DPC would like to express their gratitude to our member organizations: University of Melbourne, National Archives of Australia, State Library New South Wales, Queensland State Archives, and the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa for their generous offer to host these events.
