The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is delighted to welcome the United States Government Publishing Office (GPO) as its newest Full Member.
The mission of the U.S. Government Publishing Office is to publish trusted information for the Federal Government to the American people. GPO´s digital repository, the GovInfo system, ensures free online access to current and historical United States Federal Government information today and into the future, and comprises a public website that manages, preserves, and provides access to information from the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of the United States Federal Government.
“GPO remains committed to standards-based approaches to digital preservation, and joining the DPC is another way GPO delivers on its vision of an America Informed,” said GPO Director Hugh Nathanial Halpern. “Joining this community means GPO will learn from other leading organizations and contribute our expertise to the community. Ultimately, efforts like this help us serve the American public.”
The U.S. Government Publishing Office joins a growing DPC community with 170 members in 24 countries around the world. Having expanded its global presence to the Americas earlier this year, the DPC and its extended network will offer access to good practice and excellence in digital preservation from around the world, for the benefit of GPO and the whole of the DPC membership.
Anna Perricci, Head of DPC Americas, welcomed GPO to the Coalition, stating:
"We are thrilled to welcome GPO to our global community. As an organization responsible for publishing and preserving critical federal information in the USA, we look forward to learning from the unique perspectives they will bring to our membership. We are eager to share our Coalition's expertise to help them build broader digital preservation capabilities and capacity."
The DPC is an international charitable foundation which supports digital preservation, helping its members around the world to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through community engagement, targeted advocacy work, training and workforce development, capacity building, good practice and standards, and through good management and governance. Its vision is a secure digital legacy.
