Heriot Watt University logoHeriot-Watt University is the latest organization to join the Digital Preservation Coalition, as they become Associate Member.

With campuses in Edinburgh, the Scottish Borders, Orkney, Malaysia and Dubai, the University is moving towards a digital only environment, which has been accelerated by the pandemic and remote working and teaching.

In addition to the digital surrogates and born digital records held in the archives, the University also manages student records, moving image and sound, and research data. Heriot-Watt’s goal is to embed good practice in digital records creation and management throughout the University.

“Joining the DPC will allow the University to be connected to other people and organisations working in the same area,” explains Helen Taylor, Heriot-Watt University Archivist. “We especially look forward to accessing the valuable experience and expertise of the Coalition and its Members, which we will use to support the University’s management of digital assets.”

Juan Bicarregui, Chair of the DPC Board and Head of Data Division for STFC-UKRI welcomed the news, saying: “We are delighted that Heriot-Watt University has joined the DPC as our newest associate member. As active and engaged members of the digital preservation community, we look forward to learning from their experiences and sharing our own.”

The DPC is an international charitable foundation which supports digital preservation, helping its members around the world to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through community engagement, targeted advocacy work, training and workforce development, capacity building, good practice and standards, and through good management and governance. Its vision is a secure digital legacy.
