KU Leuven joins the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) this week, becoming its newest Associate Member. As one of the oldest universities in Europe, KU Leuven is dedicated to the long-term care and accessibility of their vast library and archival collections, ensuring that valuable data, research, and cultural heritage are preserved for future generations.
KU Leuven LIBIS is responsible for the long-term preservation of KU Leuven's digitized and digital born library, archival heritage and research data collections. Kris Dekeyser, Lead software architect & preservation expert for KU Leuven, explains: “By joining the DPC, we seek to benefit from the experiences of the DPC community and actively contribute to the present and future challenges surrounding preservation.”
LIBIS also hosts the institutional research data repository and will soon start with the preservation of the deposited research data.
Jane Winters, Chair of the DPC, welcomed the news, saying: “We are delighted that KU Leuven has joined the DPC. They join a group of more than 60 dedicated Higher Education and research institutions within the Coalition, and as active and engaged members of the digital preservation community, we look forward to learning from their experiences and sharing our own.”
The DPC is an international charitable foundation which supports digital preservation, helping its members around the world to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through community engagement, targeted advocacy work, training and workforce development, capacity building, good practice and standards, and through good management and governance. Its vision is a secure digital legacy.
