London Metropolitan Archives (LMA) has joined the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) this month, becoming the Coalition’s newest Associate Member.
As the city’s public archive, London Metropolitan Archives exists to collect records of London’s rich past history and to find and collect records of London’s vibrant and diverse present, which are permanently preserved for the use and benefit of present and future generations.
Juan Bicarregui, Chair of the DPC, welcomed London Metropolitan Archives to the Coalition, saying: “City archives such as LMA are the guardians of the collective memory of a community. I look forward to working with London Metropolitan Archives enormously; sharing our own expertise from within the DPC membership whilst learning new perspectives and experiences from the LMA team.”
“LMA is very pleased to be joining the DPC community,” says Nicola Avery, Principal Archivist for London Metropolitan Archives. “We look forward to working with colleagues to champion and promote digital archives in the UK, and to being a part of this expert community”.
The DPC is an international charitable foundation which supports digital preservation, helping its members around the world to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through community engagement, targeted advocacy work, training and workforce development, capacity building, good practice and standards, and through good management and governance. Its vision is a secure digital legacy.
