The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) welcomes the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) as its newest Associate Member this month. MCCLogoThe MCC is responsible for managing five heritage collections that capture the unique stories of the Club and the venue it manages, the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), along with other key pieces of Australian sporting history.

The Australian Sports Museum (ASM), the Australian Gallery of Sport and Olympic Museum and the Melbourne Cricket Club Museum, Library and Archives (all located within the MCG), are dedicated to preserving and sharing Australia’s rich sporting heritage at the iconic venue.

“The Melbourne Cricket Club is excited to join the DPC and take its next steps in preserving Australia's digital sporting heritage”, says MCC’s Digital Preservation Coordinator Joanne Winter.

“We are acquiring more and more born-digital and digital surrogate material in our heritage collections and are currently working to improve our practices in managing this material to ensure it is preserved for future access.”

Robin Wright, Head of DPC Australasia and Asia-Pacific, welcomed the news, saying: "We are thrilled to have the Melbourne Cricket Club join the Coalition. As one of Australia's oldest and largest sports clubs, the MCC holds a wealth of information chronicling Melbourne's history and culture, and we are excited to share our experience to support the MCC’s efforts in preserving this invaluable digital sporting heritage."

The DPC is an international charitable foundation which supports digital preservation, helping its members around the world to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through community engagement, targeted advocacy work, training and workforce development, capacity building, good practice and standards, and through good management and governance.
