The National Library and Archives of United Arab Emirates (NLA) is the latest organization to join the Digital Preservation Coalition, as they become Associate Member this month. Based in Abu Dhabi, and one of the oldest cultural institutions in the United Arab Emirates, the NLA provides intellectuals with a variety of publications that explore both authentic cultural and contemporary issues in history and heritage. 
As the national archives, one of the NLA’s major activities is to preserve documents and information relating to the history and culture of the Arabian Peninsula in general and the United Arab Emirates in particular, from primary sources in Arab and foreign countries, for the long term.
“Joining the DPC is essential and valuable in preserving our digital memory of the nation and ensuring its accessibility for future generations,” says Azza Al Kaabi, project manager for the NLA.
“The National Library and Archives of United Arab Emirates is an organization committed to promoting the value of digital preservation and supporting the development of best practices. Therefore, the DPC offers a vital platform for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and consulting.”
Juan Bicarregui, Chair of the DPC Board, welcomed the news, saying: “We are delighted that the National Library and Archives of United Arab Emirates has joined the DPC as our newest associate member. We look forward enormously to sharing expertise from within the DPC membership whilst working with and learning from the largest documentation organization in the Arabian Gulf region.”
The DPC is an international charitable foundation which supports digital preservation, helping its members around the world to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through community engagement, targeted advocacy work, training and workforce development, capacity building, good practice and standards, and through good management and governance. يعد الأرشيف والمكتبة الوطنية لدولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة أحدث مؤسسة تنضم للتحالف للحفاظ على التراث الرقمي، حيث أصبح الارشيف و المكتبة الوطنية عضوا منتسبا هذا الشهر.
مقره في أبو ظبي ، وهو واحد من أقدم المؤسسات الثقافية في دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، ويوفر الأرشيف والمكتبة الوطنية للمثقفين مجموعة متنوعة من المنشورات التي تبحث القضايا الثقافية والمعاصرة الأصيلة في التاريخ والتراث. و أحد أهم أنشطته الحفاظ على الوثائق والمعلومات المتعلقة بتاريخ وثقافة شبه الجزيرة العربية بشكل عام ودولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة بشكل خاص، من المصادر الأولية في الدول العربية والأجنبية، على المدى الطويل.
"إن الانضمام إلى DPC أمر ضروري وقيم في الحفاظ على ذاكرتنا الرقمية للأمة وضمان إمكانية الوصول إليها للأجيال القادمة" ، تقول عزة الكعبي ، مديرة مشاريع في الأرشيف و المكتبة الوطنية.

ورحب خوان بيكاريغي، رئيس مجلس إدارة DPC بهذا الخبر، قائلا: "يسعدنا انضمام الأرشيف والمكتبة الوطنية في دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة إلى المجلس كأحدث عضو مشارك لدينا. ونحن نتطلع إلى تبادل الخبرات أثناء العمل مع أحد أكبر أرشيفات المنطقة العربية في توثيق وثائق منطقة الخليج العربي والتعلم منها".
