The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is delighted to welcome Standard Life Aberdeen Plc as a Full Member.

Based in Edinburgh Scotland, Standard Life Aberdeen is a Global Investment company with an almost 200-year history. The last five years have seen a focus on building an archive to manage the company’s physical records. And now, also preserving born digital records, the company is keen to move to the digital preservation phase and actively manage the records which will retain the company’s history for future generations.

“Standard Life Aberdeen has one of the most complete archives of any investment or insurance company in Europe and our archive contains the corporate memory of the company and documents the evolution of a nearly 200-year old business,” explains Karyn Williamson, Company Archivist.

“We understand the importance of having robust digital preservation capabilities to preserve this, and we aim to give our born digital and digitised records the same level of care as we give our physical records – our membership of the Digital Preservation Coalition will be central to achieving this goal.”

As Full Members, Standard Life Aberdeen joins the DPC’s Representative Council which ensures that the Coalition remains tightly focussed on its strategic plan, and that the strategic plan remains relevant to members' emerging needs.

“We are very pleased that Standard Life Aberdeen has joined the DPC,” says Juan Bicarregui, Chair of the DPC Board. “Standard Life Aberdeen have always been active in the business archives community, so we are delighted to have an opportunity collaborate with them on their preservation activities and to gain a new perspective on managing digital assets within a corporate environment.”

The not-for-profit DPC is an international advocate for digital preservation, helping members around the world to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through community engagement, targeted advocacy work, training and workforce development, capacity building, good practice and standards, and through good management and governance. Its vision is a secure digital legacy.
