The National Library of Scotland is organizing an online workshop on web archiving on Friday 4th August (12:30-13:45 BST / 13:30 - 14:45 CEST)

This online workshop will be an introduction to the Library’s web archive service, led by Web Archivist Eilidh MacGlone.

How can we preserve culturally important Web content and make it available for future researchers, historians, and the public?

Since 2013, the Library has been collecting information from the open web, alongside the other legal deposit libraries of the UK, as part of the web archive project. The archive is available at webarchive.org.uk, where it is possible to browse the collection and check for archived versions of websites.

The workshop will look at the web archive's history and touch on methods used by researchers working with this material. It will also include tips for finding resources in the web archive. There will be an opportunity for you to work on short exercises with web archive data sets, using browser-based tools.

Lucy White, a MSc Library and Information Studies student at the University of Strathclyde will run a short survey during the event. Lucy is researching methods for supporting communities in developing co-created and participatory metadata for web archiving.
