The DPC welcomes The University of Queensland Library as its newest member

The University of Queensland (UQ) Library has joined the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) this month, becoming the Coalition’s newest Associate Member.

As the largest university library in Queensland, Australia, UQ Library holds significant special collections. “The University of Queensland Library provides access to rich collections that support the needs of researchers, educators and communities. We have a responsibility to ensure that the unique cultural heritage and institutional records of enduring value we hold are preserved for future generations.”

Preferred Media joins the DPC Supporter Program

The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is delighted to welcome Preferred Media to its Supporter Program this week.

Based in Sydney, New South Wales, Preferred Media has been a leading provider of physical media preservation services in Australia for over 40 years. In addition to digitizing film and videotape, the company offers LTO-based digital preservation for its brand and agency clients, as well as specialized services for GLAM and other industries, integrating long-term preservation into their digital offerings.

As 2024 draws to a close, it’s  time for DPC staff to take a break. What an exciting year it has been!

DPC’s mission is a welcoming and inclusive global community around digital preservation. We are deeply encouraged by the confidence members put in the DPC, and in each other. We’re now active in 25 countries with 17 new DPC Members and 2 new Supporters since the start of the year. This year also saw another action packed World Digital Preservation Day, and the kick-off of a bunch of new Special Interest Groups.

New DPC Task Force on calculating and mitigating the carbon footprint of digital preservation

The DPC are establishing a new task force for 2025 with a focus on calculating and mitigating the carbon footprint of their digital preservation activities. The terms of reference for this new group can be found here. This group will meet monthly for a period of a year to develop and communicate good practices and standards for how to calculate the carbon footprint of their organization’s digital preservation activities.
