The Swedish Tax Agency has joined the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) this month, becoming the Coalition’s newest Associate Member. Skatteverket, as the Swedish Tax Agency is known in Sweden, is the government organization tasked with the collection of national taxes and administering the population registration in Sweden. It plays a crucial role in ensuring the financial stability and functioning of the country. Within the agency the digital preservation team is dedicatedSwedish Tax Agency to efficiently and accurately preserving petabytes of data.

“Membership in the DPC will offer us unique and valuable opportunities to take part in the international community of digital preservation and to access all of the knowledge and experience that the community holds”, says Magnus Norberg, Digital Archivist at the Swedish Tax Agency. “Within the agency, we have worked actively with digital preservation for many years and invested considerably in developing its services over the last couple of years. Due to the digital transformation and the rapid changes in technology it brings, we see an even greater need for solving the challenges of digital preservation within a global community.”

Jane Winters, Chair of the DPC Board, welcomed the agency to the Coalition, saying: “The DPC is committed to supporting the international digital preservation community for the development of effective practices and highly skilled workforces wherever they are in the world. We are therefore delighted that the Swedish Tax Agency has chosen to join the DPC and look forward to the prospect of collaborating with them in their digital preservation work as a result.”

The DPC is an international charitable foundation which supports digital preservation, helping its members around the world to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through community engagement, targeted advocacy work, training and workforce development, capacity building, good practice and standards, and through good management and governance. Its vision is a secure digital legacy.
