Following the launch of the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) office in Melbourne, members in Australia meet today as the DPC Australasia Stakeholder Group for the first time.
The Stakeholder Group has been constituted to ensure that members in Australia, New Zealand and surrounding areas inform the development of the local program and can direct the DPC’s activities to meet their own particular needs.
Providing a forum where members in Australasia can articulate their needs, the Stakeholder Group will guide and oversee activities relating to the Coalition’s core objectives in the region, reporting to the DPC’s Executive Board and ensuring that the DPC remains true to its values and mission.
Chaired by a full member of the DPC, the quarterly Stakeholder Group meetings are open for all members in the region to attend.
Chair of the inaugural meeting, Donna McRostie, said: “It is wonderful to have the opportunity to shape the DPC’s program in this way. We look forward to the open exchange of ideas and requirements, leading to a program of work which really meets all of our needs.”
The current members of the Stakeholder Group include the National Archives of Australia, the University of Melbourne, Australia’s Academic and Research Network (AARNet), the University of Sydney and the University of Adelaide. The group looks forward to welcoming new members to future meetings.
The DPC’s office in Melbourne will enable improved access to a program of activities for members and digital preservation practitioners across the southern hemisphere and will help enable institutions at all stages of maturity in the digital preservation journey.
The not-for-profit DPC is an international advocate for digital preservation, helping members around the world to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through community engagement, targeted advocacy work, training and workforce development, capacity building, good practice and standards, and through good management and governance.
Any Australasian organization that joins the DPC through the Melbourne office, before 31st July 2020 may benefit from an additional 10% discount (when taking out three-year Membership).
