The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is delighted to welcome the University of Alberta Library as its newest Associate Member.
The University of Alberta Library (UAL) in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, is situated on Treaty 6 territory, traditional lands of First Nations and Métis people. In support of one of Canada’s top teaching and research universities, UAL strives to be a trustworthy partner for local, national, and international efforts to steward the scholarly record and preservation of digital content. UAL uses a variety of services, tools, and approaches to meet the digital preservation needs of the university and broader community.
“The University of Alberta library is excited to join the DPC. The mission and work of the DPC align perfectly with our commitment to ensuring the long-term accessibility and preservation of digital collections,” says Geoff Harder, Associate University Librarian at UAL.
“This partnership strengthens and builds our capacity for digital stewardship. It directly supports our mission to provide enduring access to knowledge in what continues to be a rapidly evolving digital landscape. We are excited to listen and learn from others, and to share our experiences.”
UAL joins a growing DPC community with 169 members in 24 countries around the world. Having recently expanded its global presence to the Americas, the DPC and its extended network will offer access to good practice and excellence in digital preservation from around the world, for the benefit of the University of Alberta and the whole of the DPC membership.
Anna Perricci, Senior Manager at DPC Americas, welcomed UAL to the Coalition, stating: “By collaborating with the UAL team, we look forward to strengthening and sharing in a global network of expertise, resources and best practices which will enhance the ability to safeguard valuable research, cultural heritage and digital resources for future generations for the whole community."
The DPC is an international charitable foundation which supports digital preservation, helping its members around the world to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through community engagement, targeted advocacy work, training and workforce development, capacity building, good practice and standards, and through good management and governance.
