Call for Applicants: DPC Grant for DCDC 2023 Conference in Durham

The DPC is pleased to offer a Career Development Fund grant for DPC Members to attend the Discovering Collections, Discovering Communities (DCDC) Conference (#DCDC23), taking place 11-13 July, in Durham, UK, and online via EventsAir.
This grant will cover 100% of conference registration and provide an additional contribution towards travel and accommodation if attending in person. More details about the grant are provided below, and applications are welcomed from DPC members until the grant application deadline of 7:00 UTC on 2nd May 2023.
iPres 2022 Keynotes: Transcripts now available in Arabic, French, German, Japanese and Spanish

The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is thrilled to announce that - thanks to the hard work and efforts of our multi-lingual digital preservation community – the transcripts for the iPres 2022 keynotes are now available in Arabic, French, German, Japanese and Spanish. The translations are part of the DPC's efforts to provide better access to support for digital preservation practitioners worldwide.

University of Strathclyde joins the Digital Preservation Coalition

The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is delighted to welcome the University of Strathclyde, as they become the newest Associate Member of the Coalition.
Located in Glasgow, the University of Strathclyde is responsible for the digital preservation of more than 80000 scholarly publications as well as over 40TB of archive collections, with more on the way. Workflows are deployed for research publications, datasets and theses which aim to standardise digital preservation activities.
“The University of Strathclyde increasingly views digital preservation as a key part of the workflow for a variety of digital objects and an essential part of system functionality,” explains Alan Slevin, Scholarly Publications Manager for the University of Strathclyde.
How do you use the NDSA Levels of Digital Preservation?

The NDSA Levels of Preservation steering group would like to find out more about particular scenarios in which the Levels are being used. This information will help others who are using the Levels and may also inform future work. Rather than looking for full and detailed case studies, the group hopes to gather real life activities from a range of different organizations using the Levels answering specific questions and scenarios of interest to the community.
£5.8 million project to deliver a more sustainable future for Open Access books

The Digital Preservation Coalition and Members are part of a new project that works to increase access to valuable research and is to receive more than £5.8 million in funding.
Led by Lancaster University, the Open Book Futures (OBF) project will develop and support organisations, tools and practices that enable both academics and the wider public to make more and better use of books published on an Open Access basis. Open Access books can be accessed and used online free of charge.
The National Museum of Australia joins the Digital Preservation Coalition

Amidst the excitement of the Digital Preservation Coalition’s (DPC) Relaunch Roadshow series of events to celebrate the successful establishment of its Melbourne Office, the Coalition is delighted to welcome the National Museum of Australia (NMA) as its newest Associate member.
Located in Canberra, the NMA tells stories of Australia with a particular focus on First Nations histories and culture, European settlement, and interaction with the environment. These stories are ever evolving and growing and, in the 21st century, are being played out across both the physical and digital landscape. In response to these cultural and societal shifts, the Museum is embarking on a bold digital transformation initiative to research, refine and develop collecting and display practices in this era of digital change.

Workshop description:
Climate change poses enormous challenges to archives and archivists. In the short term, climate change presents issues such as unpredictable weather and the potential for more frequent and severe disasters. In the long-term, climate change may reshape decisions around the geographic location, appraisal, and use of archives. In this workshop, archivists and cultural heritage professionals, regardless of their location, will learn about how climate change impacts our work and cultural heritage institutions.
Digital Preservation Policy Toolkit 2.0 now available!

The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) has released a new version of the Digital Preservation Policy Toolkit to coincide with its Relaunch Roadshow in Australasia.
Now freely available for anyone within the digital preservation community to use and designed for organizations of any type, the Digital Preservation Policy Toolkit guides users from initial research and preparation phases, through to drafting a policy, gathering feedback and communicating the finished policy.
